Living in the Moment
Here’s our newest video addition to our ‘Living in the Moment’ series. Have you ever reached your destination and not remembered exactly how you got there? Have you driven through a light only to look back and wonder if you ran a red?
Recent studies show that 8 out of 10 motor vehicle crashes are due to driver distractions. This includes seemingly simple distractions such as cell phones, changing a CD, eating, drinking, or even talking to a passenger, to name a few. We tend to lose sight of the most important task at hand – living in the moment. Try putting your cell phone away, eating when you’re at a full stop, and taking care when you’re tuning your radio or playing with your Ipod. Focus your entire attention on driving and reaching your destination safely. Rest your mind and take in what’s happening right now. Try not to stress about the traffic – if you’re stuck at a stand-still, take a moment to appreciate your surroundings. You’ll eventually reach your destination, and why not arrive safely, relaxed and stress free? A client came into our office yesterday and, after leaving, gave us a great example of what can happen when you are present and open to seeing what is around you. Here’s what she had to say: “What an amazing beginning to my day today!! I have been energized and galvanized all day! You would laugh, as I drove back I came to a red light at 41st and Oak Street, as my gaze lifted I saw a sign on a building that said “The Adventure of a Lifetime!†… amazing what signs you see when you set your intention to notice.†~ Liz McNally, Poet
